During India’s 6 month festival season, elephants are forced to walk miles on scorching tar roads without any food or water. While shackled they are made to run races or do head-lifting competitions. They are often drugged or fed alcohol to keep them calm. https://pic.twitter.com/JbGESLPUpW

When festival season is over before being returned to their respective temple, these elephants are forced through another round of breaking where they’re corralled in a small enclosure, starved and tortured for several days by a group of men, often drunk.

Elephants paraded in festivals as a ‘religious tradition’ is a FLAT OUT LIE. The cruelty began about 80 yrs ago when India’s elite began buying elephants to flaunt their wealth. It’s the antithesis of Hindu’s core tenants and is a stain on the religion. https://pic.twitter.com/JbGESLPUpW
Away from the glitz of the festivals, elephants are tied to 1 spot w chains that eat into their skin and inflict agonizing injuries to their legs; they are “trained” with punishments to hold their heads high. SIGN Petition: https://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/613/761/313/
